In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dalh uses the 7 deadly sins to symbolize the main characters of the 1964 book. Willy Wonka organizes a competition in which five children find a golden ticket in a chocolate bar, they can enter his factory, take a tour and ultimately win a prize. The Seven Deadly Sins represent seven of the main characters. The seven deadly sins are lust, gluttony, greed, pride, anger, sloth and envy. Throughout my article you will see how each of them is represented. Willy Wonka is the main owner of the chocolate factory, no one has entered and one day he decides to hold a competition in which 5 children are chosen who will enter the factory with an adult and in the end will win a prize. While the children are in the factory, they notice that Willy Wonka sometimes seems to be unusual. He has flashbacks at random times that stop him in his shoes and the way his factory is run by Oompa-Loompa is bizarre to adults and they think there is something seriously wrong with him. Every child makes a mistake during the journey and must be sent to a certain room to be fixed. Charlie Bucket and his grandfather are the first to make a mistake, they drink carbonated drinks, but he and his grandfather solve the problem themselves. In the end Willy Wonka is very angry and Charlie doesn't get the prize because Willy Wonka realized the mistake they made and said they didn't deserve it. Willy Wonka says, "You get nothing, you lose, good morning sir!" Then Charlie hands Willy Wonka a gobstopper, tells Charlie that he had now won the prize because he was the only child not to eat the gobstopper, and gave it back to him. Willy Wonka symbolizes anger at the end of the story because of what he did to Charlie when he got angry and yelled. Augustus Gloop is a bi...... middle of paper ...... with golden eggs she wants one and her father offers Willy Wonka all the money he wants, Willy Wonka says I'm not for sale and Veruca gets very angry. After complaining, she sits on a table where eggs are dropped to see if they are good or bad and is chosen as the bad egg and is sent to the dumpster and all this symbolizes greed. Mike Teavee is a kid who sits in front of the TV all day and plays video games about cowboys and Indians. When shown on the news, his mother even boasts that he never eats at the table and serves all dinners in front of the TV. Nike symbolizes sloth because all he does is sit in front of the TV. While in the factory's TV room, Mike chooses to be sent into the air and then appears on the television screen. Mike can't seem to get away from the TV, no matter what form it's in.
