Three million people will never be able to breathe again, nor see their families again. The Vietnam War lasted about fifteen years before it ended. Many people, including our veterans, believe that the Vietnam War should never have happened. The Vietnam War is one of the most crucial wars ever to have occurred in history. There are many films based on the Vietnam War; some fictions and some not. The movie “Forrest Gump” is about the Vietnam War and a man who achieves all these horrendous accomplishments in life and in war. There are some things in the movie that are accurate, but most of the war scenes are done just for entertainment and not to show historical facts. This article will show you that even if a movie is based on a historical event, it doesn't always mean it's a true story. The movie Forrest Gump begins on a beautiful morning where a man is waiting for his bus, at the bus stop. he stops, begins to tell his life story to a woman sitting next to him. His story begins with him saying, “You can tell a person's life by the look of their shoes.” (Gump) The whole story started with a little boy who was unfortunately diagnosed with a mental disorder. On his first day in elementary school he met the girl of his dreams, Jenny, on the school bus. Forrest and Jenny grew up together despite all their difficulties. Forrest helped comfort Jenny when her father was abusive towards her at home and Jenny helped Forrest with the bullying; also helping him at school. One day, after being chased by cruel high school boys, Forrest Gump caught the attention of the Alabama football coach who ran across their training field for his life. Forrest and Jenny then stopped talking for... middle of paper... the Gump movie wasn't important at all. Obviously it was a wonderful movie that made tons of money, but it's a poor source for all the historical events it depicted. Although the film is based on real events, it contains unrealistic facts about every event in the film. Forrest Gump wasn't a real man and the movie wasn't a real life story. This movie wasn't important. The film would make someone believe that they are learning about the war, but with real research it would definitely change the Vietnam War mentality towards the film. It was not meant to educate viewers about the story, but was created to sell out tickets. Perhaps the film was made to prove that anything is possible in life. For example, growing up people always called Forrest stupid, but that never stopped Forrest from pursuing his dreams. Mom always says stupid is like stupid. (Gump)
