Introduction This report was requested by Winston Hiliau to discuss a road project listed on Auckland Transport website. Of all the current and completed projects, I have chosen "Upgrading Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street" as the topic of my report. The New Zealand Government has a $30 million budget to upgrade and widen Tiverton Road and Wolverton Street, located between Clark Street and the intersection of New Windsor Road and Maioro Street. The aim of the project is to increase road safety and provide an efficient road environment for all users. Construction began in August 2012 and is expected to be completed this month. Background The number of vehicles expected to travel the busy 2.2km stretch of arterial road each day is 31,400. Since the 1920s, the busy route has served as a useful community route providing access to homes and businesses in West Auckland. The demand for higher standards for urban roads has increased over the years. To meet the challenges and needs of the future, the corridor requires modernization. Problem Statement Due to increasing population and traffic flow, demands on road users will increase significantly in the coming years. The installation of safer pedestrian islands, a safer four-lane route between State Highway 20 and Portage Road, New Lynn, and safer sidewalks and intersections will help provide the community with a safer and more efficient work environment.
