Work experience I didn't choose what my internship would be. I showed up at Miss Franklin's office nervously hoping to get a good placement. She sat me down and looked over some documents. He popped out and told me he had found a comfortable job placement. He showed me the letters and the title was BUPA Hospital, Marketing Department, Bushey. The first thought that came to my mind was: how boring is this. Then I took some time to think about the ups and downs of it. I live in Bushey and it's not even a five minute drive from my house. Also my business studies courses are in marketing, so I could gain some useful knowledge that would help me with this. Miss Franklin had gone to a lot of trouble to arrange the internship for me, so I didn't refuse. I thought the format was that she had arranged the internship just for me as my preference had been for experience in office work. I didn't realize I had the ability to change what he had offered me. I found out later that three of my friends had been offered this position before it was offered to me. Miss Franklin gave me a long, important-looking form to fill out and told me I should bring my passport and other identification documents. At first this worried me; then I found out it was only because BUPA is a private hospital and there are some confidentiality rules I had to stick to. For example, if I saw someone I know in one of the departments, I couldn't tell anyone I saw them. I talked to all my friends about where they're going and none of them seemed as nervous as I was. ...... half of the paper ...... and I was happy with how comfortable I was with them. I wish I had been more open to discussion and friendlier towards the beginning of the week and that would have made the whole week more enjoyable. Finally, one of the other things that made me quite annoyed with myself was that one day, while I was sitting in the office, the HR manager came in to talk to my supervisor. I said, "Hi," and shook her hand and she realized I was the intern and said, "We might be able to offer you a part-time job, if you're interested?" I simply nodded and mumbled “Yes.” This, I think, made her think that I wasn't particularly interested, but I'm desperate for a part-time job. If I had the chance to repeat this, I would have been very friendly with her and would have been very enthusiastic when she mentioned work.
