In this analysis, it was identified that undergoing a laparoscopic cholecystectomy compared to an open cholecystectomy provided an overall better outcome in terms of faster recovery, less postoperative pain and fewer complications in patients with cholecystitis. Not only does the type of surgery performed affect patient health outcomes, but so does postoperative nursing care. Patients who have adequate management of postoperative pain and nausea control while recovering from a laparoscopic cholecystectomy during the early postoperative phase are more likely to have fewer postoperative problems and meet discharge criteria sooner.
