Christian influence on the progress of American societyCharissa Bogner, Korissa Murphy and Britni KillingsworthThroughout history, standing up for one's rights has played an important role in the growth of America regarding: rights of women, segregation, taxation, religion... etc. However, as America has expanded over the past few centuries, Americans have gone from respecting the points of view of others to taking offense when different points of view are shared. “We often hear that 'if your religious beliefs work for you, that's great, but don't impose them on others.'” Because of this dilemma, words like; “Judgmental,” “hypocrite,” and “intolerant” are all accusations leveled at Christians because of their moral stance on issues that differ from public opinion. In most cases, Americans overlook the positive impact of Christian public influence. This concept of intolerance is something that is highly frowned upon in the America we live in today. Intolerance is defined as “Unwilling to allow or accept something; unwilling to allow some people to have equal liberties or other social rights; or reluctant to grant equal freedom of expression, especially in religious matters." People in America today have confused the concept of being intolerant with holding someone accountable for their actions or fighting a wrong for the betterment of larger society. As you examine the history of America and see the countless people who have been defenders of the Christian faith, it is evident that the line between standing up for what you believe and being intolerant of the views and opinions of others is become blurred. Don't judge otherwise you too will be judged. For…half of the paper…Reagan was one of the presidents that Graham had the opportunity to influence, and he said, “It was through Billy Graham that I found myself praying even more than daily.” basis... and that, in the position I held, my prayers increasingly had to give me the wisdom necessary to make decisions that served God and were pleasing to Him.”. It is because of Billy Graham, his work, and his family that America has remained in such a positive position about what it might be like without God in it. Billy Graham was a powerful tool that God used to maintain the Christian faith in America. While some may see him as intolerant or disapproving because he believes so strongly in God and Christian values, many Americans, both Christian and non-Christian, admire him for his accepting, funny, honest, and sincere attitude toward anyone, if they agree with them or not.
