It was a beautiful day in May and school was about to end, as everyone was looking forward to summer, my siblings and I were deciding to homeschool . This decision changed my life for the better and I was able to learn a lot of knowledge and spend quality time with my family. My experiences as a homeschooler led me to want to research homeschooling and how it affected others. Where homeschooling remains one of the fastest developing trends in America and that very trend is spreading across the world. According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, the number of homeschooled students has increased dramatically, reaching approximately 1.1 million from 1999 to 2003. With many new and exciting statistics released daily, including the homeschoolers far outperforming the national average on both the SAT and ACT, with more than 74 percent of homeschooled adults taking those scores and heading to college, versus 46 percent of the general population, supported by Home Association studies School Legal Defense (Home-schoolers Facts). Through the advancement of homeschooling, various ways of learning at home have been developed and many people have thrived with homeschooling. Homeschooling isn't for everyone, but for some it provides a great learning environment and experience that you can't get in a public school system. Evidently, there are many thriving public and private schools, but homeschooling exemplifies an accurate form of learning, directing a student toward natural learning opportunities; this being a known fact, not a new concept. Before the urbanization of America, a time when attending school was not possible, children were taught at home, to learn... middle of paper... to be a bully. Crossway, 1995. 24-25.
