In other words, no two individuals look at life the same way. I agree with this quote. Maggie Johnson from Stephen Crane's Maggie: a Girl of the Street and Kino from John Steinbeck's The Pearl demonstrate this idea. Life could change for the better thanks to money and then you would be happy, but this is not the case: your life turns into sadness and death. Maggie, the protagonist, lives in a slum on the Lower East Side of the Bowery in New York. He lives in an apartment building with his mother, Mary, and his brother, Jimmie. It's the beginning of the 18th century and this Irish immigrant family is poor. Mary is a drunk and her brother Jimmie drinks and fights with everyone. Maggie doesn't go to school because everyone has to work. She works in a sweatshop, sewing clothes. His life is full of poverty and darkness. Maggie meets Pete and is impressed that Pete wears nice clothes. Pete likes it too. He takes her to live theater many times. She sees his clothes as a symbol of wealth and that he takes her places she has never been before. She sees Pete and the money he spends on her as a way out of her sad life. She leaves her home and goes to live with Pete to have a better life. She thinks he loves her, but she's gone to hell. Soon after Pete meets Nellie and leaves Maggie. He has nowhere to go so he returns home. Her family does not allow her to return. Mary tells her she's a disgrace and they ridicule her in front of all the neighbors. Even small children are warned to stay away from her. Maggie leaves with nowhere to go. Pete tells her not to bother him; he doesn't love her, now he is in love with Nellie. No one is nice to her and so she starts walking down the street. She turns to...... middle of the paper ...... the other character because she behaved badly towards her family, including her mother, who kicked her out of the house because she thought she had gone to hell . She feels depressed because she leaves the house peacefully and finds Pete to go out with him to the theater. On the other hand, Juana shows courage in warning Kino that the pearl turns evil. Then, while trying to throw it away, Kino fights Juana because he thinks it's worth a lot of money. Unlike Maggie, who faced her situation in silence, Juana takes action to try to save the world. Both characters face problems in their lives. However, Maggie reacts silently while Juana speaks, which truly embodies the statement that people react differently to the world. Between these two characters, I like Juana's behavior more because she is trying to save the world. As a result, Maggie's evil behavior can upset people.
