I personally support the Leroy Reed acquittal verdict because I believe that even though he broke the law, he should not be charged with the crime of weapons possession. The most compelling evidence was the expert witness who stated that Reed had a 2nd grade level of intelligence. When Leroy Reed was testifying, he was asked if he was convicted and he said no. He was then asked to say yes to a visit from a parole officer. Reed was then asked again if he was a convicted felon and he said yes. Reed gave mixed answers about being a convicted felon during his testimony, which demonstrates his mental abilities. EXPAND. Another compelling piece of evidence was that after Reed showed the sheriff the gun's sales receipt as a form of identification, Reed voluntarily surrendered the gun. Reed knew he had the gun, but willingly handed it over. I believe Reed should not be convicted for being willing to surrender the gun at the sheriff's request.
