In William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, the concept I outlined was fate and free will. Macbeth was forced to choose between fate and free will when he learned of the witches' prophecy. This concept was interesting because you were tracing how Macbeth's decisions would affect him later in the story, an example is when he kills Banquo and then Banquo's ghost comes to haunt him. These decisions would ultimately decide his future and shape his personality as a ruler. Macbeth chose free will and therefore became king through lies, deceit, and murder. His rule as king was similar to his education as king. I chose this topic because I thought it was interesting why modern dictators made their decisions, how their decisions brought them to power, and how they are able to stay in power for long periods of time. This relates to modern times because today leaders who gain power over totalitarian governments or inherit power through their relatives are inevitably harsher and more tyrannical rulers than those who are elected as leaders. Many leaders from around the world are showing modern parallels to Macbeth by gaining and maintaining power through rigged elections and executing or intimidating the opposition. Part 2Robert MugabeA real world dictator who emulates Macbeth's tactics was Robert Mugabe, he was the dictator of Zimbabwe who is currently using similar tactics to those used by Macbeth. . Mugabe was elected after helping lead Zimbabwe to victory against Rhodesia. Although Mugabe has called for free elections, he has been in power since 1980 and won the 2008 election by intimidating opposition supporters by attacking them and getting his men to threaten them. He barely won the vo...... middle of paper ...... either he resigned or the country's civilians act and overthrow the government just like many people have done in the past. Just as Malcolm overthrew Macbeth, these tyrants will one day be overthrown, and when they are overthrown the lives of millions of people will be improved. Bibliography Ioannidis, Alexandros.
