Psychiatric disorders are common illnesses around the world. People with mental disorders unintentionally affect millions of people. Many people know someone with a mental disorder while others simply hear about it. The daily routine for these people is not easy to deal with. Just because a person behaves and thinks the opposite way or more slowly does not mean they are less capable of success, as society defines it. Children, adolescents and adults with mental disabilities have a huge impact on society along with their families and friends. The process by which one understands a mental illness and behaves differently towards a mental illness is indescribable. There are various types of diagnosed mental disorders, some more common than others. Some common disorders are: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, impulse control disorders, etc. These disorders are usually diagnosed through frequent behaviors and then tested. For example; Anxiety disorders are observed when patients “respond to certain objects or situations with fear and terror” (Mental Health: Types of Mental Illnesses). The answer becomes clear if the patient's response is not suited to the circumstances. Most mental disorders are observed first, and a person's behavior will show whether the disorder is present. The lifestyle of people suffering from a mental illness is at greater risk of decreasing quality of life. Statistics show that “of the estimated 450 million people worldwide living with mental or behavioral disorders, 90 million were addicted to drugs and alcohol, 25 million suffered from schizophrenia, and 150 million suffered from depression” (Introduction to Global Mental Health : effects of mental health on individuals and peoples – United for sight). This is their life... middle of paper... capable of immense achievement if given the support and opportunity to prove themselves. No one should be underestimated because that is what causes mental stress and the fear of not being good enough. Mental illnesses can be addressed in many different ways if society takes a stand.
