Have you ever wondered how some athletes became so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did to achieve this result? For some the answer is simple; train and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance-enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people who argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I will present my opinion and justify my reasons. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because they can be very dangerous to the athlete's health, it is a way to gain an unfair advantage, and it can be dangerous both socially and physically. The first reason why I think steroids should not be allowed in professional sports is because it can be very dangerous to the athlete's health. Athletes who use steroids are more likely to have heart attacks, liver cancer, and high levels of “bad” cholesterol. The use of anabolic steroids can weaken the immune system.1 This proves that athletes don't go up or down. At the same time they work hard and keep their bodies healthy, they also risk their lives. The athlete has worked hard all his life to maintain his health and body and when he takes steroids he wastes all the hard work. “In a NIDA-funded study in 2010, adolescents were asked whether they had ever tried steroids, even once. Only 1.1% of eighth graders, 1.6% of 10th graders, and 2.0% of 12th graders have ever tried steroids.”2 This statistic shows that when a As a person ages, they are more likely to try steroids. Also it also shows that at a very young age some people start trying steroids and start taking risks...middle of the paper...the athlete can go into depression and eventually do many dangerous things like suicide.I think the steroids should not be legal in professional sports because they can be very dangerous to an athlete's health; it is unfair and it is also dangerous from a social point of view. These are the reasons why I think steroids should not be allowed in professional sports. In professional sports the game should be played as fairly as possible, without cheating or problems. Steroids are currently illegal in Canada. Works Cited1. Latyonia F. Cha Cha. Cha Cha Search, Inc (Cha Cha UK), 2009. nd2. np WebM., NIDA. 2005.20113.NIDA. NURSERY FOR TEENAGERS.
