The American West Coast has a distinctive architectural style, reflecting their ideology, from the East Coast, where this essay is written. The stereotypical term, which may be offensive to some, “granola” is used to describe the population of the West Coast, in particular British Columbia (excluding Los Angeles, which we will understand later, if not already) and the importance that they attribute to the natural environment, having an abundance of it and surrounding it in their landscape. Regarding architecture specifically, I will argue that this ideology, although considered stereotyped, is present and characterizes their urban landscape, especially domestic architecture, trying to bring the natural landscape into it, and has been present in their history .
