Have you ever had the feeling that, while reading a book, you can identify with another protagonist? Well, this happened to me while reading the books “The Cather in the Rye”, written by JD Salinger and “Haroun and the Sea of Stories”, written by Salman Rushdie. Both of these books had a very interested protagonist. Holden Caulfield, a flawed teenager, Haroun Khalifa and an ideal alternative, shares many similarities and differences. Holden Caulfield is a pessimistic person who is always disconnected and cynical with everyone he meets in his life. Holden plays life like a game of poker because you don't know what move he'll make next. If you can describe the action he took it was an unwise decision. Holden had no purpose in his life and did not care about the consequences of his actions. After her brother Allie there was no point in living her life. In the book it says “I felt so alone, suddenly. I almost wish I were dead." As I read the book I wondered why he had a negative view of the world. It is not because of his brother's death that that question will always remain empty for everyone. When I was reading the book I was saying what kind of character Holden is, a person who has no strengths except English and his weakness in judging everyone he meets. Holden acted like a child who doesn't really want to grow up due to his age. He thinks that when you grow up you change and will do anything for a couple of dollars. The book talks about brother DB who sells himself to Hollywood for money. Because Holden knows that he must grow up for the people he loves. Overall Holden is a very negative protagonist who doesn't do what he is doing in his life but needs someone to guide him on the path to peace. Haroun Khalifa is a determined person who always keeps us... at the center of the card... Between Holden and Haroun the type of journey divides them. With Holden he goes on a journey to escape his old life. But Haroun goes in search of his mother's whereabouts. The second difference concerns their life. You cannot accept your past and want it to disappear. The other is looking forward to his future because he foresees that it would improve his life. The final differences are how they have accepted their lives as the end approaches. With Holden he finally admits that he has a mental problem and tries to do something but doesn't promise anything about it. With Haroun he is filled with happiness because he found out why his mother left him and found a way to bring her back to his village and live their happy life together. Holden and Haroun have their things in common but they have some flaws that make them unique.
