What is domestic violence? Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. I believe author Brynelle Blanton's experience is a social issue because she and her spouse have had many arguments or disputes that ended up physical. As we established earlier in the paragraph, this is considered domestic violence; and domestic violence is a social issue. Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race or any other factor. It's difficult for women to leave an abusive relationship. “For her, leaving was the hardest thing she had ever done in her life” (Blanton 182). This is the result of numerous reasons. According to Love Is Respect, “it could be fear, the belief that abuse is normal, fear of being found out, embarrassment, low self-esteem, love, or many other reasons” (Unknown).
