The film A Prophet was directed and written by Jacques Audiard's co-authors Thomas Bidegain, Abdel Raouf Dafri and Nicolas Peufaillit. It was released in France in 2009, then a year later in the United States. The film is set in a French prison about a young 19-year-old Arab. At the beginning of the film loud noises come from the background of several languages including French, Arabic, Corsican and Italian. The young Arab named Malik is handcuffed and taken to prison where he encounters different ethnic origins. In the scene where Malik was on the bus a low melody sound is used for the viewer, in scene the innocent face, this same sound is heard again to remind the viewer that this young man is in the wrong place, prison. Malik told the guard that he was considering that he is not religious, does not eat pork and has no family to support him, later the people he deals with in prison will become his family. There is a conflict between two groups in this film, the Corsicans and the Arabs. Malik somehow becomes a bridge between these and the ethnic groups. Malik was hired to kill someone who was an Arab from the ongoing trail. Ceceras, the gang leader of the Corsicans, wanted to assassinate this new prisoner, the Corsicans had already seen Malik when he first arrived, he was pushed by his shoe, they were forcibly taken by other prisoners whose his position in prison. Reyab, the new inmate, was conversing with Malik in the showers, the courses were also there to hear Malik and Reyab speaking in Arabic.
