Bhavish Toor#141866Is Canada a racism-proof country?Canada is a cultural mosaic. Cultural mosaic is the mixture of different ethnic groups, languages ​​and cultures living in a society. Canada is one of the countries in the world to declare multiculturalism as an official state policy. This step pointed the way to a resonant and evolving cultural mosaic, based on mutual respect for all Canadian citizens of different ethnic backgrounds. The roots of multiculturalism in Canada can be seen in the country's early days, when three Aboriginal cultures, British and French, established themselves, who were soon joined by many other cultures from all continents. Today this can be seen as a landmark of Canadian national identity and a point of pride for Canadians. Despite all this multiculturalism, soon after the September 11 attacks in America, many Muslims who had gathered to pray in mosques and churches were attacked in Canada. Sikhs were also attacked because they were perceived as Muslims. Several Muslim schools have been closed in major cities across Canada. Women were also attacked for their clothing (Faisal Kutty). The history of African labor, Chinese labor, Aboriginal genocide, and Japanese burial are all forgotten by the touted multicultural progress, this has created a racialized logic that has made it impossible for many Canadian citizens to recognize the racism taking place in their surroundings. Hence, racism is ingrained in Canadians and can be seen in the form of prejudice and discrimination in the workplace.
