The zodiac is a chart of signs, based on the day of birth that corresponds to a horoscope. The Zodiac is also the name of a serial killer, whose identity continues to baffle law enforcement. There have been many books and films made about this particular serial killer, but what are the facts? What is real and what is a made-up Hollywood drama? Doing a web search I found a website that has a very detailed history of the murders of The Zodiac Killer (TZK). This website is from a crime based TV channel. This channel is known for having and presenting the facts in an unbiased view. I believe this is a reliable source of information due to the reputation of the channel and their research team. TZK killed five people and injured two in Northern California. He is said to have killed up to 37 people, however there is no concrete evidence linking him to all the crimes. His reign of terror lasted from 1966 to 1975. During this period he sent numerous letters to the police and newspapers, four of which were encrypted. TZK was never brought to justice for his crimes, and although there have been many suspects over the years, his identity remains a mystery. His first murder occurred on October 30, 1966. He killed a college student named Cheri Jo Bates. There didn't seem to be a motive and, given that no money was missing from his bag, they could rule out a robbery. Her clothes were intact, so rape was unlikely. His car; however, he was disabled and the police suspect TZK waited for Cheri to return and attempted to start his car. They believe he then offered her a ride. He led her up a driveway and used a small knife to cut her chest, back and throat. When she was found, Cheri had at least 11 cuts and her head was almost halfway down the page... but you can never know for sure if the information you found is reliable. Searching takes a long time and at some point it becomes frustrating. Works Cited Castleden, Rodney. “The San Francisco Zodiac Killer.” Serial killers: they live to kill.
