2. Knowledge Management and Business Intelligence: Knowledge management refers to the organization and sharing of various forms of business information created within an organization (Marakas and O'Brien 2013). Knowledge management is important as it increases a company's ability to learn from its environment and integrate knowledge into its business processes (Laudon & Laudon 2012). Proper knowledge management is essential for City View as Bob will soon retire. The vast amount of knowledge he has acquired throughout his career may not be able to be used by the company once he leaves. Therefore it is necessary to develop ways to retain his insights. This can be done by following my father to gain his tacit knowledge, as well as creating standard operating procedures and supplier lists to gain explicit knowledge (Baltzen, Lynch & Blackey 2013). Business Intelligence (BI) is the application used by the organization that collects and analyzes information for strategic decision making. The main purpose of BI is to support decision making (Baltzan, Lynch & Balkey 2013). Business intelligence would allow City View to track data to support decision making, including:• Difference in food costs during different times of the year• The popularity of different days of the week and months for weddings• The popularity of several months for viewing and making reservations, City View would then be able to use that data to adapt the menu, pricing and advertising accordingly. For example, if the data returned shows that January is the most popular month for visits and bookings, City View could advertise more and perhaps have an open day.3.
