Topic > Managing Corporate Culture Through Globalization

The ever-changing global business environment presents countless different challenges for those responsible for it. Business managers must use new organizational techniques and discover how to make the most efficient decisions regarding the market at the national level and even at the global level. Globalization has become more commonplace in the business community as barriers of communication and travel have been demolished. As a result, maintaining a consistent company culture through expansion presents many obstacles as there are different regulations and cultural differences when a company crosses borders. Corporate culture is the application of a company's mission, and the ability to transplant that culture from one country to another is crucial to the success of an international company. Businesses realize the challenge posed by expansion, and virtually every business will encounter setbacks when entering foreign countries. For example, guidelines for businesses in the United States may not apply in China, as they have different ways of doing things or live differently than Americans. These are some of the cultural, political, and socioeconomic forces that every manager will experience and need to consider to survive in the global marketplace. The process of globalization has become extremely competitive and exaggerates the importance of open communication channels around the world. The international environment has created enormous challenges for managers. International management is very different from domestic market management. Greater flexibility in strategy development changes significantly when planning, organizing, leading, and controlling an organization's resources. headquarters and subunits are complicated by distance, national borders, culture, and national loyalties. Greater distance and national differences also mean that international headquarters often have little direct knowledge of localized events and the relationship is often tense and difficult.
