The culture of single parenthood seems attractive to many married people. However, married people are forced to struggle with elements such as fidelity and lifelong commitment to an individual, which can be tiresome in some cases. However, single parents, especially single mothers, face serious challenges related to parenting. Being a single parent is a succession of constant mental torture due to ineptitude, self-analysis and remorse. At some point, single parents often encounter serious psychological problems, some of which escalate into stress and ultimately depression. Once again, there are far-reaching problems that force single mothers into a variety of economic or social hardships. Social difficulties are evident as a topic in this research. However, the study will still cover economic hardship as the two are closely related. The study will attempt to demonstrate that single mothers are socially and economically disadvantaged. The study is segmented into two main sections; first, a background depicting research in this field. Secondly, the study will present an argumentative literature that attempts to clarify that single mothers have a real problem not only economically, but also socially in raising their children. To achieve this, the essay names Langston Hughes' poem 'Mother to Son' as a derivative point of reference in the development of this study. Research has traditionally focused on examining the empowerment of women as they develop. However, few researchers have intrinsically examined the adult lives of single parents, especially as it relates to women.
