Watching a good film is fun, but evaluating a film and analyzing it to dissect its similarities and differences with a similar film is much more engaging. The two movies I saw recently were "Daredevil" and "Elektra" and they are both based on comic book cartoons. Immediately you can see how these two films could be similar, but I think having the films based on the comics is where their differences really stand out. Between the two films, I say that "Elektra" is better because of several key criteria that I was able to pinpoint: character development, the "all hope is lost" scene, and the special effects. First, character development plays an important role. in both of these films and was the greatest source of similarities and differences. In “Daredevil” the viewer is first greeted by the modern-day main character, Matt Murdock, dressed as Daredevil and close to death. He goes back in time to remember his entire life, and by doing so, one can understand the character's development. Unlike “Daredevil,” “Elektra” begins with an opening of the main character, Elektra, as a strong, beautiful and ruthless assassin. This difference is also their similarity because the films portray both main characters as superhuman vigilante fighters of some kind. Their individual growth as people occurs mostly where they are different, but their backstories are nearly identical. Matt begins as a young child who is traumatized by his father's decisions and disabled by the toxic waste that blinds him. What was unique about his disability was the fact that all of his other senses were heightened due to the loss of one, and those sound frequencies formed certain waves with which he was able to see. Have…half of the card…perform moves known to be impossible in order to keep the story together. From these two films, "Daredevil" and "Elektra", one can analyze the character development, the "all hope is lost" scene, and the special effects used to compare and contrast two seemingly inseparable films. To understand each character you need to pay attention to their personality and combine that with how they handle the "all hope is lost" scenario, while adding special effects to enhance the performance. Thus the viewer would immediately realize that the mixture of these three elements combined with the plot respectively hurts and helps the films. While Matt is a vengeful crusader bent on bringing criminals to justice, Elektra is a ruthless assassin focused on obtaining money for an inexplicable purpose, but nevertheless still has compassion for others in need..
