This article will focus on why teenagers should not be allowed to have an abortion and its effects. What is abortion? Abortion is the name for the process that involves the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus to terminate an existing pregnancy. This process can only be done within the first six months of pregnancy. (Soanes) The Feminist Women's Health Center explains that sexually active teenagers who do not use any contraception have a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within the first 12 months of sexual activity. Teens become pregnant even when contraceptive methods, such as birth control pills and condoms, fail. Among groups of adolescents who become pregnant, more than a third obtain an abortion, the forced termination of pregnancy by removal of the embryo or fetus from the uterus. Women could terminate a pregnancy on their own if they wanted without the assistance of any kind of doctor or person with medical expertise.
