To ensure the safety and well-being of U.S. citizens immediately after being attacked by al-Qaeda, President Bush stated: “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our greatest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundations of America. These acts may shatter the steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” Although President Bush was considered a source of security in a time of need, many citizens believed that his words were not authentic and were part of a dramatic story that the government wanted its people to believe. Despite the stance, both perspectives agree that the United States has been attacked by a series of suicide attacks coordinated by al-Qaeda. That Tuesday morning, 19 terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and the fourth into a field in rural Pennsylvania after passengers fought back from the terrorist to try to regain control of the plane. This is the story the government wants its people to believe. However, the truth about the September 11 attacks is much scarier. On September 11, 2001, the United States government betrayed its citizens by allowing the destructive attacks on the Twin Towers, WTC-7, the Pentagon, and Shanksville. At 8:46 am, the United States witnessed the first terrorist attack of many occur when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Flight 11 hit the tower between floors 93 and 99... center of sheet... 7, the Pentagon and Shanksville. The outcome of events cannot be changed now, but the American people can be informed about what the government is capable of doing to its own people. Amid attacks, political corruption, and many other government scandals, Americans have remained loyal to their nation. While there is nothing positive to say about what happened on that dark day in 2001, the best thing that can be gleaned is that perhaps the nation of the United States was brought together in a time of need. For a while, after the attacks, people no longer considered themselves black or white, young or old, rich or poor: they were all Americans. Despite the stance taken on the issue, it is sad to see thousands of innocent people losing their lives in the attacks and numerous soldiers having to fight for the selfish political agenda of a nation..
