Frankenstein states, “There is no reason why the race of immortal beings he hoped to propagate should not be exclusively male” (Mellor 355). The real reason Victor doesn't want a female creature is because he comes from a patriarchal society and doesn't want any woman to be independent. She is afraid of what women might do if they had to speak out and stand up for themselves. Victor is terrified of women who are free to make their own choices and are sexually free. According to Rousseau, “She could assert her own integrity and the revolutionary right to determine her own existence.” Female independence threatens the male society that Victor wants to have without women. Victor is worried that when he creates a female creature, it will be uglier than his male creature. The male creature desires a mate because he is alone in society. Frankenstein fears that she will be so bad that he will leave her, continuing the cycle of alienation, which will soon turn to murder. Furthermore, he was afraid that the female creature would mate with humans. Frankenstein believes that the female creature will be power-hungry and will seize and rape any male she may choose. Finally, Victor Frankenstein is paranoid about the reproductive abilities the female creature may have, which may lead to the production of similar creatures (Mellor
