I did my primary source analysis homework on the song "Born in the USA" by singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen. After hearing this song I analyzed what I thought it meant. This song has a very clear meaning. It is an anti-war song, about the memories and deep pain of a man returning from war after experiencing personal loss not only as a citizen but also as a recruit. This song describes how he was unemployable for "doing the right thing". Springsteen basically wrote this song about the problems that Vietnam veterans tend to encounter when they return to America after serving their sentences. Vietnam was the first war that the United States did not win. While veterans of other wars received a hero's welcome and a pat on the back, those who fought in Vietnam were largely ignored when they returned to the United States. In January 1973, the Paris Peace Accords were signed and U.S. State forces came from Vietnam. This war cost the country 58,000 lives. In 1973, the United States Congress enacted the Wars Power Act. Our soldiers returned home battered, bruised, and depressed after a hard-fought defeat. Springsteen wrote this song with the lyrics used to make a strong statement about how veterans were not treated immediately after losing the war. People confuse the meaning of the song because Springsteen made it so upbeat that it was a happy and positive song. In all reality the song is upbeat to show people that it was a big deal. I also think he did it to show people that they weren't even realizing what was going on and that it actually should have been a better welcome for these veterans. When the song starts, the first two things you notice are the drums and everything. the loudest musical instruments in the ba...... center of paper ...... I had a family and I took care of him very much. After analyzing one of Springsteen's most popular and famous songs, I really learned a lot about not only how to break down a song to understand its meaning, but also how easily lyrics can be interpreted differently from the meaning they were written for . This song was clearly written to recognize those Vietnam veterans who were not recognized as they should have been after returning home from a hard fought war. But people took the lyrics to make the song another patriotic piece about the pride we have here in America. really put the lyrics together and listen to what he's trying to express. These veterans should have received more attention and appreciation for what they did for our country.
