The Mariana Trench is not only the deepest known point in the ocean; is also a rock band based in Vancouver. The band consists of guitarist Matt Webb, bassist Mike Ayley, drummer Ian Casselman and singer Josh Ramsay. The Mariana Trench has been very successful in Canada and is now moving towards the United States of America (USA). Originally, the Marianas Trench band was called Ramsay Fiction. Marianas Trench contributed a song, Alibis, to the spring 2007 soundtrack for the ABC Family science fiction show Kyle XY. Masterpiece Theatre, their second album, was released in 2009 and quickly became a critical success after going platinum in Canada. Feeling ambitious, Marianas Trench decided to try a more contemporary record. In 2011 they released the more story-focused Ever After, which was reissued with bonus material in the US in 2014. Marianas Trench's slow rise began when the daughter of Martin Kierszenbaum, president/founder of Cherrytree Records, introduced her father to the band's bold pop sound. . On April 10, 2013, Marianas Trench announced a deal with Cherrytree Records, which became their designated home in all territories outside of Canada. Masterpiece Theatre, their 2009 album, and Ever After, their 2011 album, both topped the Top 10 on the Canadian Albums chart. The Vancouver-based band's Canadian success has carried over to the United States. Although they may not realize it, American pop fans are already very familiar with the work of singer Josh Ramsay.
