Have you ever seen movies with the characters of Hannibal Lecter, Jason or Michael Myers? These are very famous psychopaths in the world of Hollywood. The way these movies portray these psychopaths is a misconception of what a psychopath really is. A psychopath is “someone with a personality disorder characterized by aggressive, violent, antisocial thoughts and behaviors, and a lack of remorse or empathy” or “an offensive term for someone who is considered highly antisocial, aggressive, and lacking empathy. ” (Encarta ® World English Dictionary) Psychopaths are known and most likely to have APD, which stands for Antisocial Personality Disorder. People suffering from APD are usually subjected to extensive testing to find any signs of psychopathy or even sociopathy in their mindset. Not all people with APD are bad, they just don't understand and conform to human nature. Psychopathy can be detected as early as age nine. Some signs of early psychopathy include: violent behavior, uncontrollable misconduct, and being antisocial. The thought that a nine year old is a psychopath is inexplicable, crazy. The truth is that not all psychopaths are violent, that psychopathy is just one type of many mental illnesses or disorders like all the others. Acts of violence by a psychopath are preventable if the individual is diagnosed at an early age. It is usually at the age of fifteen that these individuals display and embrace their psychopathy. Once they reach this stage, therapy and medications may become useless for their case. It is not easy to reverse the mentality of a psychopath or any normal person, especially a psychopath, since they are already born with such mentality.
