When you study the Bible, you look at certain scriptures, books, or lectures. Bible study is analytical and you look for the deeper meaning in it all. It's not like meditation where you meditate on a word and it's not limited to books or lectures. As Terry Tarsuik said it is “attentive attention to something that moves the mind toward God” (TT, 2015). Study helps the Christian mind understand the meaning of what it is studying and broadens its horizon. Outward spiritual discipline in my opinion is something Christians should do on the outside to make a difference. It is not something that happens internally in a person. Outer spiritual discipline is something that should be applied to a Christian's outward lifestyle. Many external spiritual disciplines have to do with helping others and influencing other people's lives. Simplicity Simplicity is the need to live simply. Simplicity puts things in their place and lets them take their course. It is an internal change that is expressed externally.
