IntroductionWorking in SCBU is very interesting due to the critical situation of children. It is also a perfect place to practice family-centered care that creates emotional bonds and attachment between children and their parents. Furthermore, the mother should be involved in her baby's care to provide comprehensive care. Human touch has physiological and emotional effects on the child. Description of the incident Ten years ago at the Royal Hospital, in the Special Care Body Unit, when I was a Neonatology student, my task was to intubate an extremely preterm baby in high dependency under the supervision of a nurse (expatriate). The child's mother came and asked me about his condition and I explained to her. Then she asked me to touch the little girl and allow her to do so. Suddenly, she started crying so much that I had to force myself to keep her calm and also know why she was crying. Then she told me that since she gave birth she had never touched him. It's been 90 days. I called the assigned staff nurse and asked her why the mother had ignored her and not been included in the care. She explained why her child's condition was critical and needed a special concept to address. For example, minimal handling to prevent infection and minimize the risk of damage. He added that it was also difficult for the mother to manage him with the ventilator and monitor tubes attached. Anyway I explained to the nurse. Because the mother should be a fundamental part of the care even in her critical conditions. This resulted in many benefits for both mother and baby. Finally, the nurse admitted that this was the first time she had learned about its benefits and promised to educate other staff about this issue and follow up. The mother... at the center of the paper... and of attachment, in the development of the brain and in the health of the child. I have recommended all staff to utilize family center care while providing care for any outcome in patients.
