Both were created to serve two different purposes where neither jurisdiction could be crossed. Local police forces' first foray into “militarization” began with the wars on drugs and terrorism. The creation of SWAT teams was created to neutralize these wars and their threats. Militarization quickly began to make its way into domestic policing, through the influence of returning military soldiers' cultural behaviors and new technologies. Militarization of the police serves the interests of both parties; the army wants to extend its power and increase its budget, while the police benefit from the acquisition of powerful weapons and well-trained personnel. However, one of the main disadvantages resulting from the concept of “militarization of the police” is that the public has now come to fear the national police instead of seeing them as a servant of public safety. The Black Lives Matter movement is a cry for help from local black communities who are victims and see the police as such
