Topic > Resignation Letter - 669

Dear Father Mavis: With this letter I inform you that I am resigning from the position of director of the Teen Music Ministry effective June 30, 2001. I did not reach this decision easily, but I feel that this it is appropriate at this time. My position at Life Teen Music Ministry has been challenging and a true learning experience. Looking back at the beginning of this year, I truly believe that music ministry has achieved a remarkable breakthrough from past programs. This was possible thanks to the few dedicated choristers and the support of my former elementary music teacher, Nancy Rehner. I feel I need to explain further how I reached my decision to resign. When I initially decided to accept the position of Teen Music Ministry Director in early September 2000, it was decided that Mikal Gonzales and Mary Stephenson would attend the Tuesday rehearsal and Sunday mass event for this first year that I was hired . On Tuesdays Mikal was to assist in teaching the new music to the choir members. Mary was supposed to do the same in addition to playing the guitar. Within about 4-6 weeks, Vicki Hando and possibly others involved with Life Teen requested a meeting with the music ministry due to concerns about the music format. As a result of this meeting, Mary and Mikal left their positions at Life Teen Music Ministry. Just before the Christmas season, Mikal returned at my request to assist in the music ministry. It was agreed that Mikal would be present at every rehearsal and help teach the music. He also had to attend all Sunday masses, missing only for understandable reasons. As far as I know, everyone was happy with the musical format during the Christmas period. Towards the end of February 2001, complications arose again. Mikal began to sporadically miss rehearsals and several Sunday masses. Sometimes I was unaware of his absence. I would have to not only plan the musical format with the choir members, but also teach the music on those Tuesdays. Mikal was absent. Then he showed up at Sunday mass and changed the format. This abrupt change of plan caused an increase in tension within the choir and frustration on my part. The full responsibility of teaching and directing was placed on my shoulders, but this is not what was originally agreed. In reference to music, Vicki Hando was reportedly getting upset because too much music was being used from the Heritage Missal and not from the Heritage Missal. Book for teenagers about life.
