Topic > High School Drug Testing - 783

High school students are leaders among younger kids and many others in their community. As leaders, these students need to show others what good character is, but instead they are destroying their lives by using drugs. Over the past decade, drug use among high school students has been on the rise again. With the Internet their exposure to drugs is much greater. High school students believe they can get away with drug use. These drug addicts soon influence other students to use drugs because there is no rule that prevents drug use. In order to protect the future of these students, drug testing must be applied to all students ensuring a safe environment for students to learn successfully. Allowing random drug testing in high schools will deter students from trying these harmful drugs. Stopping drug use among high school students is critical because drugs prevent students from learning leading to them dropping out of high school. Students who become overwhelmed by these harmful drugs will ruin their lives forever, but if guided in the right direction they can be saved. There is right from wrong and it is wrong for students to take medications unless prescribed by a doctor. It will benefit students' lives by making good and smart choices. The goal of high school is to educate and prepare students for a successful future, but how can a student's future be successful if he or she uses drugs? Research and statistics have shown that drug use and dropout rates go hand in hand. The annual high school dropout rate in the United States is extremely high. One in seven students will drop out of high school before receiving their diploma, and more than thirty percent of these dropouts use drugs illegally. Many high schools across the nation...middle of the road...try to find good jobs, but high school students cannot continue their education if they are involved in drug use. Over thirty percent of dropouts in the United States are due to drugs. 30% of drug addicts who drop out of school may never find a job. This is why it is important that high school drug testing be applied to all students. High school drug testing would provide early warning of drug use and allow the school to put the student on the right path to success. Drug testing will give students confidence and another reason to say “No” when they are pressured by peers to try drugs. Many say drug tests invade their privacy, but with drug use at an all-time high, who can we count on? High schools are meant to prepare students for their futures, and for students to succeed we must allow drug testing in high schools.
