We should either admit that the boundary between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens is arbitrary and uses non-morphological (i.e. temporal) criteria to determine it, otherwise Homo erectus would have to be sunk [into Homo sapiens]." - Milford WolpoffINTRODUCTIONThere are three hominids. The first is Homo Habilis who was the most ape-like among them. Homo erectus was their next successor. It was they who made the first stone tools. There are many similarities and differences between these two species. Sometimes people call Homo sapiens “advanced Homo erectus.” The most important adaptive change made by Homo erectus was the first migration out of Africa. [Emigration meant moving across a variety of ecosystems, climates, and ecological contexts. Each of these would have presented Homo erectus with challenges never encountered by hominids. Most important was the movement from tropical and subtropical Africa to the seasonally colder regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Eurasia and the Far East. (anthropology book)] Some changes were a result of this move and this is where I compare and differentiate the two after that move. Some might say that Homo sapiens and Homo erectus are one and the same, but there are many differences between these two as well. KNOWING HOMO ERECTUS Homo erectus was the second species of hominid. They are called erectus because they were the first to maintain an upright posture among all. In my research, there is fossil evidence that shows they lived up to 1.3 million years from today and the earliest fossil of Homo erectus dates back to 1.8 million years. Given this d... middle of paper... what are we doing right now. They started creating the tool and they are the ones who created the first fire. It was simply passed on to a larger species with greater cranial capacity. Homo sapiens was the successor of these discoveries. They were the ones who made these tools more advanced for them. This is why these tools were different. Homo erectus was the inventor of all these things. It was Homo sapiens who expanded the function to better hunting. Homo sapiens was considered human rather than human. Personally I think it's mostly our ancestors. They really look like us, only with a few differences from us, but they were no longer monkeys. Comparing these two simply shows us how they evolve from a human-like species to a human-like species. 374
