Society is burdened with inherent flaws. From ancient times to the modern age, social imbalances and power struggles have always existed. One of these flaws is the differences in social expectations that exist between men and women. Even today, women face the same challenges faced by their predecessors, adhering to the traditional values that society had imposed on them. Republican politician Faith Whittlesey argues that even in today's relatively relaxed social atmosphere, "In order for a woman to be considered equal to a man, she must do even more than a man." This rough assessment of women's current social status, while true in most cases, is not entirely consistent. The Greek tragedy Antigone offers support for Whittlesey's claim.
