"Facebook is a mirror and Twitter is a megaphone", says a study from the University of Michigan. Social networks and the media take up more and more of our time. Psychologists say there is nothing wrong with social media, but that it was never meant to replace a person's life. Experts recommend that individuals establish a balance with each other. While social media is used to connect with people, it's easy for people to get caught up and feel alone and isolated. Excessive dependence on social networks and media negatively affects people by causing depression, lower grades, psychological disorders and physical health problems. Excessive use of social media has been linked to depression. Nearly 400 million people worldwide have a Facebook or MySpace account. Doctors say it is unhealthy for a person to constantly compare themselves to other people as this can lead to a negative self-image. "I" and "I'm not good enough" are thoughts that cross some people's minds; these thoughts and others like them lead to an unhealthy life and depression. Study author Professor Paul Kirschner said: "The problem is that most people have Facebook or other social networking sites, their emails and perhaps instant messaging constantly running in the background while they do other activities. These mistakes can lead to depression." A new study on Facebook depression has found that the more time a person spends on Facebook, the more their feelings of good health decrease and their feelings of depression increase. Ethan Kross, the project's lead researcher, explains that normal people fear "missing out" and easily become addicted. (Facebook causes depression, new study says) Social networker Mohammed Gols...... center of paper...... teenagers' advertisements and commercials are about unhealthy food. After a while they accept that they are gaining weight and begin to consider it natural. An effective way to reduce weight gain is to go outside and play outside. Additionally, parents can get teens involved in sports so that instead of sitting on Facebook all day, they can play a sport. (Obesity among children: a media problem?). In conclusion, excessive use of social networks and media is time-consuming and negatively affects grades and health, both mental and physical. It is important to balance people's time between social media, studies and outdoor games. From depression and lower grades to lack of sleep and obesity, social networks pose a danger to the unaware, especially young people. Despite the fact that people may feel like they are missing out on life online, what about what happens outside of the Internet??
