Dillard's is an excellent example of what can go wrong when a management model from the past is applied to modern progress and technologies. They are not growing with consumer wants or employee needs and are becoming an obsolete brand. Instead of emphasizing satisfaction rates, they emphasize bottom line profits. While this formula has contributed to the company's success and enabled national growth at the turn of the century, it is also causing employee morale to plummet, which is known to reduce customer attraction and rates of satisfaction. Occasionally, conflicts and problems will arise at the management level because the basic instinct of human nature requires disagreements and social interference. However, it is up to the upper management level to address the problems that arise in a timely and effective manner for the benefit of all parties involved.
