What is the purpose of a college website? Some argue that it serves to spread the college's academic stance to help people better themselves in education. Others will say it's strictly aimed at attracting people with extra study plans and fun things to do on or around campus. I believe the real purpose is to appeal to people who want to better themselves while also showing the other benefits of attending said college, all while helping every step of the way to attendance. The Davidson.edu website does a great job of structuring it to appeal to a younger audience with academics and diverse student activities. At first glance the website is intriguing with photos and videos of things to do in Davidson. When you dig deeper and click through to other pages, it shows the academic benefits and how far Davidson can take them. So I think the purpose of Davidson.edu is to attract a wide variety of people and help them participate and I think it does that well. The home page is the most attractive part that attracts people. The audience Davidson.edu is aimed at is a younger and nature-loving audience. The first thing you see on the home page is a presentation of the main attractions, including the surrounding lakes, rivers and mountains. The home page also shows how students, such as nature lovers, can go out to the college's ecological reserve and do activities including rafting. Nature lovers will also appreciate the presentation's information regarding research and investigations students may choose to undertake regarding work they wish to undertake, such as research in nearby woods. Davidson also targets a younger audience by placing sports as one of the main attractions on the home page. Sports are one of the main reasons...... middle of paper....... For people who don't quite understand As for how all these things work, they give you a number at their admissions office for assistance during the whole process. I don't know how they could make it easier or be more helpful. In my opinion, the Davidson College website is about trying to attract a wide variety of different people and not limiting the college to a set standard of people. It does this by targeting athletes, but also nature lovers who would prefer to join clubs that involve river rapids rafting. Also, not just to get people interested, but to help them every step of the way until they get onboarded and applied. It helps students by being relevant and all important information is evident and important links are in sight. Making it impossible not to be interested and making it impossible not to apply.
