Topic > Gender Differences in Slavery - 954

Over time, many differences between men and women have been documented in how men and women feel different, how understandings are different, and how many women are undoubtedly different . So now I focus on the difference between African American men and women during the time of slavery, according to Henry Bibb. Wrestling with some of the feelings and treatments that every single gender of slave had to personally deal with or be a part of, through my investigations. My main statement would be. How do particular burdens affect male and female slaves? Enslaving Men Men during the time of slavery were faced with many obstacles and treated with a lower standard than even the average domestic dog. To truly understand this, let this mature in your mind and understand whether “I have been whipped; for where I should have received moral, mental and religious education, I received innumerable blows, the object of which was to degrade me and keep me in subordination. I can truly say that I have drunk deeply from the bitter cup of suffering and pain. I have been dragged to the lowest depths of human degradation and misery, by slavers” (Bibb, pg. 13-14). To begin to try to break down the difficulties of this treatment is difficult to understand and even more difficult to understand how these enslaved males can understand what a man is or how to be a man. Just being whipped wasn't enough to be completely downgraded "...[S]he washermen...want to do a little sport...they go among the slaves and give them whiskey, to see them dance," pat juber", singing and playing on the banjo. Then get them to wrestle, fight, jump, run foot races and bump into each other like sheep. This is prompted by giving them whiskey; place bets on them; put.. . in the middle of the paper... voids in marriage that sometimes they cannot be repaired by the heart and love. Sex in bondage Sex for most women is just an act, depending on who does it the sexual act is granted voluntarily, then obviously feelings will be involved, love will be shared. However, if the sexual act is taken by force, the activity becomes callous and harmful. Now, for men, the ignorance of the rape of their female slaves is somehow a blessing for them. If they enslave men they act as if it didn't happen and women also act as if it didn't happen. The relationships they can share together within their home are made up of love and commitment to each other, but they are made up only of ignorance of what really happens.
