The morality of business people and their trust in the accounting profession have become questionable due to the reported decline in public trust in financial reporting. In contrast, the accounting profession is a field of growing interest in higher education as it draws on various interests especially because it is considered the fundamental language and tool of business. Ethical conduct in the accounting profession has become a hot topic. Based on this context, margins for growth and trust have been generated in the profession as a whole. The profession has the responsibility to ensure that the financial reporting tool presents relevant, reliable and useful information for the benefit of the client. Although qualification for the profession is regulated by professional bodies, it is essential to understand the principles outlined in the Accounting Professionals Code of Ethics. Bailey (1995), suggests that professional ethics and values are products of the “golden age” of professionalism and key ethical standards in the profession have not been successfully translated into higher education and the accounting world.
