There are questions about how she became so popular, but there isn't much about her (60). However, there are suggestions that the reason she became popular was that she guided explorers across the Great Plains. Another woman considered somewhat of a myth is the naturist Sakina, married to a Frenchman. According to Carter, Sakina's story is unique because she was married to a non-Native American, a rare union at that time (567). Historical papers about her state that she was skilled, competent, and had an energetic personality that attracted many people.
