Dr. John H. Stoll, director of the Christian Psychological Clinic of Minneapolis, analyzes these motivations in his article entitled “The Bible and Psychology”. Stoll highlights four main motivations of human beings based on biblical study: the fear-anxiety-apprehension syndrome, the anger-hostility-hatred syndrome, the depression-guilt-psychic pain syndrome, and destructive selfishness ("The Bible and Psychology" ). Additionally, Dr. Stoll highlights four aversive emotional needs common to all humans: affection, acceptance, appreciation, and fulfillment.
