Most of my community service time has been spent assisting a group that specializes in helping autistic children. The Groden Center has graciously allowed me to help them with some of their programs. By helping out with the Special Olympics, winter festivals, and arts and crafts activities, I was able to work to make sure things went well. One long-term service I provided with the Groden Center benefit was my speech-language pathologist assistance. Every Friday, for a set number of weeks, I collected data analyzing the growth of autistic children with language development, organized files and worked with spreadsheets. My help in this regard made the work needed to be done each week less complicated to complete. On the other hand, I performed secondary community service duties such as assisting with barn maintenance, giving tours to incoming eighth graders, and working with the URI Master Gardeners. All of the experiences I chose to help build my community service transcript were for the good of the community rather than to impress a university. I take pride in helping my community with the activities I care about and know that I would gain lifelong skills and characteristics based on the responsibilities I assist. Personally and socially, I am now more open, charismatic and outgoing
