The bill passed both houses of Congress, but was vetoed by President Franklin Pierce. At the time, the president argued that the federal government should not engage in social welfare, believing it was the states' responsibility (Wikipedia.com). The United States has struggled to develop a comprehensive national health plan for all its citizens. There are many obstacles to pass regarding legislation for a comprehensive plan. National healthcare has been discussed, debated, studied, hoped for and discouraged. Funding a national health plan by the federal government is a tall order. We will try to identify some of the most important factors involved in the national health debate. This article will highlight key facts related to the history of the idea of ​​national healthcare in the United States, attempts to introduce and pass laws. Healthcare reform is a controversial topic in governments around the world, especially with each country trying to create development that establishes good policies and guidelines to ensure medical safety and protection of its citizens.
