To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a beloved novel published in 1960. After reading the novel there were some moments and people that I found particularly enjoyable. My favorite part of the novel was when the kids went to Boo Radley's house to try and check him out. Also, Atticus Finch was my favorite character in the novel. In my opinion the book was very good. I felt it really showed the thoughts and actions, both good and bad, of people in the South during the time of the Great Depression. In some places it was sad and in others it was comical, but overall it conveyed the message it was trying to send and everyone could learn something from it. There were some really great parts in the novel. There was a part in the story where the children, Jem, Scout and Dill, went to Boo Radley's house to get a good look at him. One night the children go out a little scared to try to see him through a loose shutter in the Radleys' yard. The children then see a shadow that scares them and run away. On the way home Jem loses his pants while trying to crawl under the fence. When the children return home, Atticus immediately questions Jem's lack of pants. Dill immediately lies and makes up a story about them playing strip poker. I love when Dill makes up this story because I think it was so smart and funny for him to say something like that. It reminds me of when I was younger and I would do something with my brother and my mom would ask me if I had a hole in my pants or something, and I would make up a story so I wouldn't get in trouble. There were also some really great characters in the novel. One who really stood out was Atticus Finch. Att... middle of paper... he turned to Scout, reassuring her that Jem wasn't dead and also giving her the suit she had always despised. Even though the movie ran smoothly without her, she wasn't seen or mentioned once in the movie, which is strange because she played a major role in the book. Many films based on books have similarities and differences between each other. The same goes for Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. Although the film ran smoothly, it was missing many elements that differentiated it from the book. Of course there were similarities and the overall theme and message of the novel was achieved in the film. Although the book was more detailed, the movie had mostly the same plot. There were some highlights and favorite characters in both the movie and the book and overall both of these creations were a lot of fun.
