The media in America rushes to the scene of violent acts and reports to viewers all the information they can, facts or not. Once it's established that a firearm was used, everyone on both sides of the American gun debate starts adding their two cents. Before all the facts are known, questions begin to be answered. These questions are usually the same. Who did this? Why did they do this? How did they get the gun? What should we (America) do? What typically follows is a mixture of emotions and political agendas intended to ensure that “this never happens again.” Many times the wrong decision is made quickly. US legislators initiate campaigns fueled in some way by emotions, personal agenda, or perhaps job security. Amy Hetzner recommends that “lawmakers must also evaluate the effectiveness of legislation passed in the emotion of the moment,” which is supported by tragedies in society that spur debate over gun control. Much research is still needed to understand many aspects of gun violence. Gun laws should be built on evidence found through solid research. Analysis of tragedies such as the one discussed in Tuscan Arizona. Seeing whether the forearms used in these tragedies were taped or not would not have stopped them. Correct information entered into databases can ensure background checks of only citizens authorized under current laws to own a firearm. On the other side of the debate, great care should be taken to ensure that ineffective gun laws, such as gun registration, are not passed based solely on opinion but on whether they will actually make a difference..
