People have different opinions on whether beauty pageants or pageants are useful or not in today's society. Some opinions may be that beauty pageants serve no purpose in society; they might think that beauty pageants only make girls and women think they have to meet society's description of beauty, they might think that what makes a person beautiful is what's inside, they might even think that they are degrading for women. Other opinions might be along the lines of saying she serves a purpose for society because the queens of these pageants do a lot of community service and other honorable work throughout the year she is "queen". Beauty pageants serve a purpose in today's society: They can help young women, teenagers, children and even men gain confidence, learn lessons and make new friends. They can open up a wide range of opportunities for you, involve you in their community and even become a "new" person. After watching television programs such as Miss America or Toddlers and Tiaras one may assume that beauty pageants are ineffective and have no purpose other than to showcase young women's bodies and sexualize little girls; however this notion is far from the truth, which is that they serve a purpose, they can help the part of humanity that chooses to participate in these competitions gain confidence. Take Pinky Guerrero as an example, she showed her admiration towards pageants by stating, “the number one of a million reasons to enter a beauty pageant is to boost your self-confidence.
