Topic > Similarities between Francisco Franco and Roman Abramovich

Comparative essay of Francisco Franco and Roman Abramovich Businessman, football team owner and politician Roman Abramovich compares himself a lot with the fascist dictator, army general and head of state, Francisco Franco. Although the two men come from different countries and periods – Abramovich was born seventy-four years after Franco – their lives have similar characteristics with many similar nuances. The historical events that affected both of these men provide only a glimpse of their personalities. However, these same events highlight the moral fiber and overall structure, establishing each man's level of integrity and reputation. We can see, by comparing the lives of these men side by side, that both men were obviously born from the same principles and the same inner drive. Francisco Franco was born to humble origins in 1892, the son of a Navy pay officer. Although his mother was descended from a Portuguese royal family, she did not enjoy the luxuries of life typically available to those who achieved such a high social and political position. Although his professional expectations outlined his future, external elements changed the direction of his life. He was expected to follow his father's example and join the Navy. However, this changed when the naval academy temporarily closed to officer candidates due to the end of the Spanish-American War, providing a surplus of officers. When he couldn't join the Navy, he joined the Army. This shows how politically related events unexpectedly changed his life. Roman Abramovich had similar humble beginnings; his were, however, marked by tragic events. Born in 1966, Abramovich was the son of a construction contractor and his mother was a musician. He lost both parents when he was still a very young child.
