Climate change is one of the most pressing problems of the current century and will lead to a growing population of over 7 billion exacerbating the depletion of global resources; Climate change can no longer be ignored. For a country like India with a population of over 1.25 billion and a rural population of 700 million, the issue becomes of immediate concern. Most of India's rural population depends directly on climate-sensitive sectors (agriculture, forests, fisheries) and natural resources (water, biodiversity, grasslands) for their survival and livelihood. According to India's National Communications Report to the UNFCCC, climate change is most likely to impact natural ecosystems and socioeconomic ecosystems. The immediate and likely threats of climate change are diverse and vary from region to region depending on the vulnerabilities the region endures to climate change.
