Eating is an important and enjoyable activity in our life. Food contains all the essential nutrients that our body needs. Eating healthy doesn't mean following a strict diet. It's also not difficult. At every meal, at every dish, choose something fresh and with colorful ingredients. Healthy eating is also known as a balanced diet. There are many benefits to maintaining a balanced diet. A balanced diet means eating a variety of foods. In general, carbohydrates as energy for the body, such as whole grains, bread, pasta, cereals and rice, proteins for building and repairing the body such as meat, fish and eggs, lipids as providing energy and preventing heat loss from the body such as olive oil, fish oil, nuts and seeds, vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients for the functioning of the body system such as vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. Choose healthier fats and oils, limit your salt and sugar intake, and drink plenty of water. These foods will keep us physically and mentally well. A healthy diet prevents or reduces many types of diseases such as obesity, heart disease and cancer. It also helps develop growth and maintain the immune system, while increasing your chances of having a long and healthy life (Healthy Eating, 2012). A poor diet will increase the chance of people being obese or overweight. This further increases the risk of many diseases. Chronic conditions and diseases associated with obesity include diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, atherosclerosis, some cancers, and sleep apnea. Obesity and other diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes are the main factors causing approximately 35 million deaths every year (Obesity, 2014). A healthy diet will help develop and improve the functions of our body and maintain a strong bone structure.
